Below Deck Down Under season 2 is set in a whole new Australian location than where returning co-stars Captain Jason Chambers, deckhand Culver Bradbury and Chief Stewardess Aesha Scott worked on season 1. Besides changing superyacht boats from Thalassa to Northern Sun, the BDDU season 2 crew worked and filmed off the coast of “the foothills of the most spectacular underwater scenery you’ll ever see,” according to Captain Jason. BDDU season 1 was located in the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef, of northeastern Australia. So, where did Below Deck Down Under season 2 film? And when did the BDDU season 2 crew film the six week charter?
Where Did Below Deck Down Under Season 2 Film: Cairns
The show filmed off the coast of Cairns, Australia, which is over 315 miles northwest of the Whitsunday Islands. Cairns, Queensland, is known for having some of the best parts of the Great Barrier Reef for undersea wildlife and vividly colorful habitats. The region of Cairns offers incredible, picturesque beaches, cafes, and local markets.
Motor yacht Northern Sun is the perfect boat for the charter season. A converted Japanese fishing trawler, has a massive dive locker, huge water toy room and two tenders. The crew and charter guests are prepared to do adventure yachting and exploration in the gorgeous tropical reefs off the coast of northern Australia. The reefs there offer sea turtles, brilliant colored fish, rays, sharks galore.
The home base for the crew’s home, Northern Sun, is Cairns Marlin Marina.
Marlin Marina is a state-of-the-art floating marina with first-class amenities because it’s a major hub for the superyachting world. It’s right in the heart of Cairns, near a five-star shopping mall and casino. Hopefully the BDDU season 2 cast didn’t get into too much trouble partying and gambling all the charter guests’ tip money on crew nights out.
Island Filming Locations On Below Deck Down Under Season 2
The first Primary Charter Guest Carmen Felder and her frenemies Kristyl and Brandon all vacationed at Green Island, where they did a full helmet dive tour. Green Island, Australia, has amazing rain forests and stunning beaches. Some of the guests also scuba dived off the coast of Green Island.
The fourth Primary Charter Guest Laura Desiree and her group of friends also went to Fitzroy Island and the beaches.
On the fifth charter, Co-Primary Charter Guests Becky Ryniecki Mattson and Michelle Harrington and their kids had the special treat of having a beach picnic on Vlasoff Cay, a beach that forms for only four hours while the tide is low.
On the crew day off, the cast took a speed boat to Fitzroy Island National Park, where they helped put some new coral on the Great Barrier Reef to help it regenerate. Aesha’s boyfriend Scott surprised his girlfriend by showing up to join for the excursion.
Restaurant & Bar Filming Locations On Below Deck Down Under Season 2
All the bars and restaurants the crew went eating and drinking at are based in the city of Cairns, Australia. The first crew night out the cast members went to The Pier Bar, which offers waterfront dining with lots of seafood on the menu.
The second night out, where now-fired Bosun Luke Jones inappropriately kissed stewardess Margot Sisson, the crew ate and drank at Hemmingway’s Brewery, which offers a variety of beers.
The fourth crew night out, where Culver Bradbury kissed new stew Jaimee Neale, the crew ate and drank at steakhouse The Cotton Club. Chef Tzarina Mace-Ralph stormed out of the restaurant and confided in former Below Deck Med star and Second Officer Joao Franco.
One crew day off, the cast and Aesha’s boyfriend ate at the Salt House restaurant right in the marina.
The first crew night out with deckhand Luka Brunton joining the cast, they ate, drank and danced at Miss Chief Bar & Eatery where everyone got coconut chili margaritas. Culver made his new short-lived girlfriend Jaimee pay the crew’s food and drink bill of AUD$317 or USD$202. Tzarina also had her way with Joao there, pouncing on him for a kiss.
