A true star of the show for her boundless enthusiasm for glassblowing and nature, Karen really impressed Netflix viewers because of her good sportsmanship and joy from teaching others. Even when dealing with the extreme temperatures of the hot glass, Karen had a blast filming the show.

“I’m really well known for my sculpture work. I love animals, I love nature, I’m fearless in the hot shop. I’m going to show these young ones a thing or two,” Karen said on the first episode of Blown Away season 4.

“Color is about life. Color is about vibrancy. I love color a whole lot. Color gives me great joy. My favorite color’s purple. When I was in college, I only had, like, six shirts, and they were all purple,” Karen said, explaining her glassblowing style.

He really was our rooster… He died twice… My husband, Jason, buried him out back and five days later, there’s Foggy,” Karen told the show host Hunter March. “And he was, like, all busted up, and all the blood was crusted on him, and he was like [imitates an undead zombie rooster].”

On a podcast, Karen explained her glass sculpting process, her artwork, and how she took a course in college that she didn’t realize was glassblowing. Once she saw the first person blowing glass, she knew it was her calling. She also shared she met Jasen at Pilchuck Glass School and she said he was quite shy when they first met.
