On Blown Away season 4, another ten brilliant and uber creative glassblowers competed in the hottest hot shop located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. This time around, the best grand prize yet was on the line, including $100,000 USD, a residency at the Corning Museum of Glass, where the winner’s final installation would be put up on display, and all-expenses-paid residency in Venice, Italy, with glass legend Adriano Berengo. So, without further ado, here’s what fans need to know about all ten Blown Away season 4 cast members.

The fourth season brought ten all new competitors, along with new host Hunter March, which included both highly experience, well-known artists, as well as newer, less well-known glassblowers. Throughout the ten episodes, all the artists wowed the judges with their glass artworks.

Glassblower Jonathan Capps

Jonathan, age 40 on the show, is a former baseball player blew out his shoulder and found glassblowing as his calling after he had to give up his dream of being a professional baseball player. He was doing the show for his daughter. He now works as a glassblowing instructor at Ohio State University and previously studied in Finland. He’s also taught at the Cleveland Institute of Art. Jonathan’s Instagram shows his artwork involves making glassware cups and other practical and beautiful household items, but he also thrives in making glass artwork, too, making many installations and displays at museums and galleries. He has nearly two decades of experience working with glass.

Trailblazing Glass Sculptor Karen Willenbrink Johnsen

A larger-than-life spirit, Karen, age 62, is super well-known in the glassblowing community for her glass artwork sculptures depicting animals and nature. “I’m really well known for my sculpture work. I love animals, I love nature, I’m fearless in the hot shop. I’m going to show these young ones a thing or two.”

Karen and her husband Jasen travel the world teaching glassblowing but are based in Bow, Washington, where they have their Hot Glass studio. Karen’s husband also specializes in metalworking and makes tools for glassblowing. Karen’s artwork from the show is even included as some of the pieces she sells on her website. Karen’s specialty appears to be making glass birds.

Karen’s Instagram shows the couple travel to exotic locations like Istanbul, Turkey, and Japan.

Glassblower Artist Robert Burch

Robert, age 32, has 16 years experience and likes to smash his glass to crack surface layer. He got a degree at the School of Visual Arts and earned a BFA in Design. He works at the glassworking hub in Seattle, Washington. Robert’s Instagram shows he loves to skateboard, snowboard, and surf in his spare time. His glass work he displays often involves horned animals, like longhorns, as well as vases. Robert also offers his artwork on his website.

Glassblower Ryan Blythe

Ryan owns his own shop called Blythe Glass Art & Design where he sells his sculptures and lighting in Seattle, Washington. He also teaches glassblowing classes to students. Ryan Blythe’s Instagram shows he likes to make glass vases and animals, but also does cool art installations, too. Ryan B was age 49 on the show and had 31 years experience as one of the most veteran glass artists on Blown Away season 4.

Venetian Glassblower Ryan Thompson

Based in the Toledo-Detroit area of Michigan, Ryan T has a job at the Greenfield Village Glass Shop. Ryan T’s Instagram shows he specializes in glassware and vases in the Venetian style. He’s also selling his works on there. “Then there’s Ryan Thompson. He’s really well known for working in a Venetian style,” said the resident judge on the show. Age 33 on the show, Ryan T has over 12 years experience. Ryan also loves his cats and motorcycle.

Glass artist Morgan Peterson

A wild and dark style all her own, Morgan Peterson wowed the judges early on in the competition. Living and creating in Seattle, Washington, she makes dark, film noir-style artwork, often involving murder and death. Morgan’s Instagram shows she’s close to her friends and loves tattoo artwork, too. Morgan’s website offers many of her glass work, including pieces from the show.

Leana Quade

Leana Quade is part of the Pittsburgh Glass scene and owns her business Quade Glass. Quade, 43, has 22 years experience in glassblowing. Quade’s Instagram shows she makes a lot of large vases and tube. She’s also a proud aunt to her niece and nephew.

Glassblower Hayden MacRae

Former drug addict Hayden MacRae runs a glassblowing studio called fascapple glass in Calgary, Alberta.

“This competition, it’s me versus myself. I struggled when I was younger. I went to rehab. Glass is what taught me to overcome it. I’ve met a lot of people in my life who told me I wasn’t going to be successful. So far, I’ve proved them wrong and I’m here to prove them wrong again.”

Hayden, age 31, makes incredible and colorful vases and bowls displayed on his Instagram. He also offers glassblowing classes at his studio.

Glass Artist Gemma Hollister

Gemma’s Instagram shows she co-owns a hot shop with her boyfriend Tate Newfield. She likes to make stain-glass window artwork. “I’m here representing the new generation of glassblowers. I’m young and I don’t have as many years of experience, so I have a lot to prove. But I come from Philly. In Philly, we like an underdog story.”

Gemma’s online store offers glass trinkets, glasses, and T-shirts.

Arthur Wilson

Arthur Wilson on Blown Away season 4

Arthur still operates his backyard hot glass studio called Silica Burns Glass. He offers glassblowing classes and enjoys making vases, seashells, whale sharks, and all other types of glass creations. “Arthur Wilson received his BFA from Georgia Southwestern State University in 2017. He is now currently practicing his craft at his home studio in Mableton, Georgia,” reads part of his bio on his website.

“I spend a lot of time practicing. I am currently glassblowing out of my backyard. I am super excited for this. Do I always have a plan? No. Will I figure it out? Yes,” Arthur said on the show.

Arthur, age 29, works as an outdoor glassblower with eight years experience. Arthur’s Instagram shows he loves sharing his work and skills with others.
