Who Are Below Deck Down Under Hidden Crew Members From S2

Below Deck Down Under season 2‘s motor superyacht Northern Sun is a large vessel that requires engineering crew to oversee its engine and electrical operate properly. The luxury yacht converted from a Japanese fishing vessel also requires a first officer to assist as the intermediary between a bosun and his/her deck team and the captain. Typical of prior Below Deck seasons, Captain Jason Chambers introduced these hidden crew members at the start of the charter season. These behind-the-scenes crew members working behind the cameras filming are typically senior-level regular crew of the vessel who don’t want to be on a TV show but need to be there to ensure safety requirements. Here’s more info on who are the Below Deck Down Under hidden crew members from season 2.

Although the show makes it appear as if Captain Jason and Bosun Luke Jones are the only two in leadership positions monitoring the deck team and the navigation of the vessel in Cairns, Australia, it’s not the case. Other seasons like Below Deck season 9 had hidden crew members, too.

Meet Below Deck Down Under Hidden Crew Members Dyma, Vlad & David

Northern Sun’s First Officer David Phillips also worked the charter season. David, from the UK, worked on several motor yachts before Northern Sun. He’s since moved on from working on Northern Sun to work as a master at Seacat Services.

Due to Below Deck Sailing Yacht‘s Parsifal III being a smaller vessel, the role of chief engineer is part of the on-screen cast. Chief Engineer Colin MacRae starred in the role on BDSY over the past three seasons. On BDDU season 2, Ukrainian Chief Engineer Vlad Fedorov holds the position behind the scenes.

“Vlad is a true ‘time served’ engineer with a commercial shipping background. He has been with Northern Sun since her conversion and is the type of individual that won’t allow the lack of a specific tool to slow him down; he simply jumps on the lathe and makes it himself. He has an interest in diving, art and photography and is fluent in both Russian and English,” reads his bio on Northern Sun’s description of its regular crew members.

Second Engineer Dyma Vetyev is also Ukrainian. “Dima holds his 2nd Engineer qualification up to 3,000 tons with a commercial shipping background. He has been with Northern Sun for five years and works alongside Vlad, establishing a strong engineering team and helping maintain the engine room to an impeccable standard. In his spare time Dima enjoys the gym, watching tennis and has an interest in films.”

Dyma is the hidden crew member viewers see near the end of BDDU season 2’s episode one when second stewardess Laura Bileskalne wakes up Captain Jason to deal with the drunken, unruly charter guests Kristyl Nelson and Brandon McLaughlin night swimming.
