Below Deck Down Under season 2 deckhand Adam Kodra shocked fans when he revealed he gets seasick regularly while working aboard a boat. The Brooklyn, New York, native also didn’t have any real experience yachting before joining adventure superyacht Northern Sun‘s crew. Adam’s intense, irritable demeanor rubbed fellow deckhand and Chief Entertainment Officer Culver Bradburry the wrong way. Hopefully Adam can make it to the end of the charter season in order to save up for the home he plans to buy his mom and family. Here’s all fans need to know about BDDU‘s Adam, deckhand on season 2.
“In high school I had really bad grades. I didn’t take school too serious [sic]. One day, my guidance counsellor pulled me into his office. And he was like, ‘What are your plans for after high school?’ And I was like, ‘I don’t know.’ So he helped get me into this four year maritime school. Somehow I passed. God, man, like I was so proud. Now I have this Third Mate, unlimited License, which allows me to work on any ship in the world,” Adam said in the first episode. “My first job was in commercial boats, just getting the cargo from point A to point B. So I’m pretty new to yachting. I’m grateful to be here, honestly.”
Before joining BDDU season 2, deckhand Adam usually worked as a third mate on cargo ships.

“Coming from commercial ships as a Third Officer, I have a commission in the military, Bachelor’s of Science, Marine Transportation, and unlimited tonnage license. And now being a deckhand, the lowest on the totem pole, getting told to clean up some nasty sludge that’s in the corner. It’s kind of [bleeped] up, but I’m trying my best,” Adam explained about his start in the yachting industry.
“Safety’s getting thrown out the window. People [bleeping] get fired for this [bleep],” Adam yells at Luke in a show preview. The season preview reveals someone gets fired, but whether it’s Luke, who’s disappointed Captain Jason Chambers at the start of the season, or Adam remains a mystery.

It looks like things eventually get heated between Bosun Luke Jones and Adam. A charter guest gets a cut on their foot from broken glass Adam failed to clean on his night watch shift.
“My parents separated when I was five. They both got remarried when I was seven. So I have no full siblings, but I love being a big brother. I look at them as my kids. My ultimate goal is to get a house for my mom and make sure my siblings are taken care of. That’s what a man is, somebody who provides for his family,” Adam said on the show.

Adam’s Instagram shows he looks up to his mom, who worked extremely hard to get him into a prestigious high school growing up. Adam’s Instagram shows he’s very close to his mom and half siblings who currently live in an apartment.

“Growing up, my mom busted ass to get me into this all-boy Catholic high school. I had friends with the new Mercedes they just got, and I’m over here like talking to my mom about how they raised the price of milk fifty cents.”

Not noted early on the show, Adam is a very talented skateboarded. He’s skated for years and can do a lot of wild tricks. He even met his idol, skateboarding legend Tony Hawk. He’s also a rugby player. Between those two extreme sports, Adam’s had a lot of injuries. He broken his arm, leg and torn his ACL, which was caught on video during a rugby match in 2017.

While on BDDU season 2, Adam is part of the love pentagon. He and second stewardess Laura Bileskalne apparently hook up on the show from what previews show.
Likely the stress of being in a boat surrounded by water was stressing Adam out.
“Here’s the thing. I get seasick and I’m afraid of water. In maritime school, they make you take this swimming test. I was like, okay, I doggy paddle like anybody. And the swim coach is like, ‘No, you failed.’ They put me in remedial swim for three months. I slipped the swim coach $20. I didn’t learn to swim,” Adam explained on the show.
Adam told fellow deckhand Harry van Vliet about his seasickness. Harry was shocked to learn Adam takes anti-nausea medication Dramamine and often throws up while working on the sea.
Adam’s birthday is on December 31, which makes his zodiac sign Capricorn. Adam fits his sign because he’s earnest yet also a troublemaker. Harry is the youngest BDDU season 2 crew member at age 23. Adam’s exact age isn’t disclosed online, but he appears to also be in his mid-twenties.

“Growing up in Brooklyn, we lived in an apartment underneath the train. When I was like five years-old, I watched the movie Kangaroo Jack. And it was about two guys from Brooklyn who went to Australia. And I’ve always wanted to go to Australia.”
